The Last Rose Petal
The rose that once stood above the crystal vase
Has lowered its petals so not to faceA card that reads “I am sorry”
Laid beside your cup of Earl Grey Tea as an offertoryThe tears we shed that day were held by angels to this day
I have no right to ask for more
But you see you are the only one that I adore
The slavery of my heart this night
Cries for forgiveness with all my mightIt is I that wants to dry the tear upon your cheek
So our souls can speakIt is I that would like to mend the chain
And take away all this painIt is I that will be the one that will open my heart’s door
And ask forgiveness as I kneel upon the floorBut if the pain is too much to quell
I will set sail upon tears that the angels have held
My boat will set sail with each stroke of oar
You will find me on some distance shoreAs each petal of the rose falls away
My love for you will endure each and every dayThey say time can heal the wounds once more
Please forgive me before I reach heaven’s door. ©2008

Very powerful subject. Your rhythms are generally pretty smooth, but a couple throw me. Thanks for sharing your work.
“It is I that would like to mend the chain
And take away all this pain”
and
“But if the pain is too much to quell
I will set sail upon tears that the angels have held”
These were both very nice lines nice first poem back friend…

@Adamission12 - I guess love means we never have to say were sorry, but sometimes we have to all we can to mend the broken chain that we have caused. Thanks Adam for your comment. It is good to be back home again. Hope your week is going well for you. Take care my good friend.
